The newly renovated (June 2020) Lusitania mountain chalet in Desná, a two-story building located on the slopes of Desenský vrch (Mt. Desná) at an elevation of more than 600 meters, offers accommodations for twenty people in five rooms (the ground-floor room is barrier-free).
Guests have access to a fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator (incl. freezer), electric oven and stove, and dishwasher. The five tables in the spacious dining room (which doubles as the main social space) provide sufficient space for everyone. There is even a wood-fired stove.
Behind the chalet is a fire pit with seating and a beautiful view.
The picturesque surroundings invite you to go on shorter as well as longer day trips, be it on foot, on horseback, or on cross-country skis in the winter. There are also several ski resorts nearby (Desná-Černá Říčka, Tanvaldský Špičák, Harrachov, Rokytnice nad Jizerou).
Come and visit… and welcome to the Jizera Mountains! It’s beautiful here year-round!
The Lusitania mountain chalet was presumably built in the 19th century – its earliest entries in the land registry book date to 1832 and 1845. The current owners acquired the building in July 2011. We chose the name Lusitania because of our love for Portugal. Since day one, we have worked to reimagine the chalet in our image, gradually improving the interior and exterior so that we – and you – will enjoy spending time here and look forward to coming back for another visit. The chalet was newly renovated in June 2020 with this vision in mind.
The two-story building with a partial basement offers five rooms (one barrier-free room on the ground floor and four on the upper floor) and sleeps twenty people. The bedding is anti-allergenic. There are wardrobes in the rooms and also built-in closets in the hallway.
Heating is via electric radiators (WC, bathrooms, bedrooms) and wood-burning stove (dining room, main hall, downstairs room).
The chalet is connected to the local water mains, meaning the water is safe to drink.
The entire chalet is non-smoking. There is no television or internet. For guests who require an internet connection during their holidays, we recommend using a mobile connection. At the chalet, you will find informational materials on the surrounding areas, and in the winter there is the option of renting snowshoes. We separate our waste (paper, plastic, glass, organic waste); there is a composting bin for organic waste outside the chalet.
The picturesque unfenced garden below the chalet features a large fire pit and seating for larger groups of people, but above all offers a beautiful view of the green surroundings and the hills across the valley.
The chalet is perfectly suited for groups of friends, several families with children, or company retreats and team-building.
On the ground floor is a fully equipped shared kitchen (refrigerator with freezer, electric stove with convection oven, microwave oven, toaster, electric juicer, blender, two electric kettles, dishwasher with tablets, kitchen utensils, and dishes), and a common room (dining room) with a wood-fired stove that gives the chalet its proper mountain atmosphere.
In the main hallway are shelves for outdoor shoes, clothes hangers, two bathrooms with showers (men/women), and a shared bathroom area with two washbasins and two separate WCs (men/women).
The four-bed room on the ground floor is ideal for families with small children, senior citizens, or physically disabled individuals.

Of the remaining four rooms, accessed by stairs leading up from the main hallway, one sleeps three people, two sleep four people, and one sleeps five.
The rooms have individual lockable built-in closets in the upper-floor hallway.

For those who, instead of cooking in the kitchen, prefer half or full board, there are several restaurant facilities in Desná, located roughly 1 km from the chalet.
Here, you will also find bus stops, a train station, a sports facility, a healthcare center, a post office, a supermarket, smaller stores (including several “večerka” stores open late in the evening), and an information center. Other good shopping opportunities (Billa, Lidl, and Penny supermarkets) can be found in Tanvald (3 km away).
The chalet is easily accessible by car, on bike, or on foot. It is located about 100 meters to the right of the intersection with Sokolská Street.
